Journal #3 (summative)

For our lit circles this week, we were instructed to look at the imagery and connections. When looking for quotes I came across the quote "The world, that understandable and lawful world, was slipping away." This shows that everything that the children knew and loved, was slipping out of their grasps and they could not do anything to stop it. For the next lit circle, we were told to find as many connections as we could, then share them with our group. We were able to find some good connections. Vincent and I were told to find a T-T connection, one connection we found was how the book Lord of the Flies connected to the Even Stevens Movie. The movie has a family that was told that they were getting a free paid vacation, but instead they were sent to an island where they had to fend for themselves. Later on in the movie, the family decides that they don't need everyone. They then choose to split up. This is a lot like how Ralph and Jack split up everyone. I found that this is also a lot like the situation in Libya. How Ghadafi has spilt his country into two sides and when the society tried to rebel against him, he began to kill them. Personally, I do not think that it was a good idea to split up in the movie, in Lybia or the book because every team is stronger with numbers. Families, and friends are supposed to stick together in the end, not split up and lose the trust and help that could have been used by the others. I connected this to the EQ: What does power have to do with fairness and justice?. Everything above connects to this essential question because all of the power got to the leader's heads. It made them make bad decisions, that lost lives and destroyed trust. People that are higher up can get power hungry, and they can use that to be unfair and unjust, and I think that is what we have to stay away from because it will make the world unlivable.
Overall, my lit circle discussions with my group went exceptionally well. We found many quotes and we were able to complete the sheet. Everyone spoke a fair amount and everyone added on to other members ideas.
